The story behind BarCoded
Founded in 2024, BarCoded grew from a simple idea: fitness software should make training easier, not harder.
BarCoded was born from a question everyone who goes to the gym asks: "How do I know how much weight I should be lifting?" For co-founders Sufyan Sayyad and Ethan James, this shared problem was the spark. They combined Sufyan's deep background in Kinesiology with Ethan's expertise in business to build a solution.
Their journey began with a hardware device for individual gym-goers. However, as they shared their concept, the most passionate and urgent feedback came from athletes and their strength and conditioning trainers. The coaches needed a seamless way to get objective data on their entire team without the logistical nightmare of expensive, single-purpose hardware. Sufyan and Ethan listened, and BarCoded evolved.
Today, BarCoded’s product is a sophisticated smartwatch platform for sports teams. This intense focus on real-world needs has allowed the company to forge strong connections with training facilities, pro-level trainers, and a growing network of startup founders. To meet this opportunity, the founding team has grown to include talented student software developers, interns, and advisors, all dedicated to pushing the vision forward.
BarCoded is pioneering a new approach to strength and conditioning. We are building the tools that will define the future of athletic training and are intent on becoming synonymous with innovation in sports technology.
